A federal watchdog found VA successfully screened nearly 95% of enrolled post-9/11 Veterans for possible deployment-related traumatic brain injury; however, approximately half of those screening positive did not receive the more comprehensive evaluation called for afterward. Screening is essential but so is the follow up care. Veterans don’t understand what should happen after an initial appointment and how to advocate for that for that follow up next step.
